 What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a scientific health profession concerned with the treatment of the musculoskeletal and movement systems of the body. Physiotherapists are highly skilled and trained in the musculoskeletal and neurological systems; they employ unique hands-on techniques in association with proven modalities and individualized exercise programs to assist patients correct musculoskeletal dysfunction and normalize movement and function.

How is Croydon Physio different from other clinics?

At Croydon Physio we strive for excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injury and movement dysfunction. All our clinicians are educated and trained in some of the countries best universities. Most have done 4 more years in specialising with their Masters, on top of their 4 year Bachelor degree. They have many years of professional experience and are constantly improving their skills and techniques with on-going education. The latest scientific research is incorporated into treatment plans. At Croydon Physio you will receive personalized treatments in your own private room in our modern facility. We work closely with your Doctor, personal trainer, team coach or employer to help you through your injury and return to your best as soon as possible. More importantly we listen to your needs and goals and we care to help you.

Do I need to see my Doctor before starting Physiotherapy?

No. In Australia, Physiotherapists are Primary Care Clinicians qualified and skilled in the management of musculoskeletal injury, dysfunction or derangement. You do not need a referral to see a Physiotherapist. However, your Physiotherapist will normally ask about who your Doctor is so that your Doctor is informed about your condition and progress. Your Doctor will also help identify any crucial information that can assist the Physiotherapist plan your treatment course. If your problem is related to WorkCover, DVA, EPC or TAC, you will require a GP referral and appropriate proof of liability.

Do I need a referral? 

A referral is not necessary unless you are claiming your treatment through a compensable body (DVA, WorkCover, EPC or CTP). If you have any queries regarding claiming your treatment, please contact reception on (03) 9723 2048.

Where can I park?

There is ample parking in our own carpark at our clinic. 

How much will it cost?

Physiotherapy consultations are covered under private health care insurance and in some instances is partially covered by Medicare when referred by your G.P.   To find out the value of a consult, or to make an appointment please phone our reception staff.

How do I make an appointment?

How long is an appointment? 

Most consults at Croydon Physio are 20 minutes long, and up to 30 minutes for an Initial Assessment and Treatment Consult. We feel that this time is necessary to accurately assess, GIVE YOU A DIAGNOSIS, treat and educate you about your injury and recovery. If you have multiple injuries to be assessed or have a complicated history, then a longer consult may be required (this can be discussed with your therapist).

Remedial Massage appointments are generally for 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

How many treatments will I need? 

The number of treatments required for an injury will vary greatly from patient to patient. Some people only require one or two treatments, while others need a more intensive and supervised program over a period of months. There are multiple factors that can influence your recovery. At Croydon Physio, our aim is to not only supply you with the treatment, but also the tools to help you self-manage to make an optimal recovery.  

How do I pay? 

Payment is required at the time of treatment. Payment can be made with cash, debit card or credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Depending on your private health insurance arrangements, we have a TYRO facility, which lets you claim on the spot and then only need to cover the gap. Please bring your private health insurance card to take advantage of TYRO. EPC claims can also be processed on the spot.

Are rebates available?

Rebates are available on all of our services through your private health insurance, depending on your level of cover. If your health fund is not registered for TYRO, we will supply you with a receipt to claim your rebate back. Please be aware that amounts vary between insurance companies and we recommend that you contact your insurer for more information regarding your individual cover. 

Is it okay if I am not an athlete? 

Of course! While we have experience working with high level athletes, the majority of our patients are from the general population. So whether you want to run a marathon or go for your daily walk, we can help.

Do you have a cancellation policy? 

We require a minimum of 24 hours notification of cancellation prior to your scheduled appointment, otherwise a cancellation fee may be incurred. We realise that appointments made in advance can be difficult to remember, so to help you from forgetting we will often confirm with you by SMS the day before your appointment. 

What should I bring/wear to physio?

As part of our assessment and treatment, we often need to see the body area in question. Athletic shorts for lower limb and pelvic injuries, and singlets for shoulder and neck problems, are a great idea. Safety / Grip socks are required for all Pilates sessions. Also, please bring any referrals, reports, imaging or anything else that you think might help your therapist.
